Minimally invasive bone surgery with piezo technique

The aim of the development of piezosurgical procedures consists of being able to work with the bone tissue without much pain. On the basis of several experiments and clinical studies we can state that piezoelectric osteotomy is very tolerant, fast and it is followed by a very fortunate bone healing. In the case of a thin manual tool the cutting width is less than 0,2 mm, that is much more smaller than the cutting width obtained by rotatory instruments. The selective cutting of the bone tissue assures the effective cutting of the mineralized bone tissue and the protection of the soft tissues because for their cutting one would need higher frequency. The procedure is very precise, the surgical instrument is easy to control during surgery especially when we prepare fine and thin bones like those near the sinus membrane or nerves and it helps us easily remove third molars or ankylotic roots and it makes possible a faster healing process.

Advantages of the procedure vs. bone preparation using a traditional rotatory instrument

  • The special overall impression (vibration, water jets, bubbles) results in minimal bleeding during bone cutting (after cutting bleeding will appear again)
  • Faster bone healing, histological and biomolecular studies prove that after piezosurgical cuts tissues heal much more faster.

Using a pezosurgical instrument we can fissure and then enlarge the thin crest in order to place the dental implant. We can also obtain bone structure from the mandible of the patient fast and with minimal bone tissue loss. Due to the curved head instruments we can remove unerupted teeth from places that cannot be accessed with rotatory instruments. In case of sinus lift we can remove bone tissue needed for creating the window, in good visual conditions, without hurting the sinus mucous membrane. In the case of a dental crown that is not high enough and we cannot make it higher via gingivectomia, we may need to remove a certain quantity of bone tissue around the dental neck. This intervention can be easily done using the appropriate piezosurgical instrument with diamond head. After healing the obtained height can make it possible to use the tooth as an FPD abutment or to save some roots.
